Minister announces Israel now considers Lebanese state target if Hezbollah wages war
It's easy to say this, but not realistic at the moment. However, this is the worrying Israeli trend, towards assigning the Lebanese state responsibility for Hezbullah's actions:
Israeli Minister of Environment Gideon Ezra said on Wednesday that Israel now considered the Lebanese state a target as the Lebanese cabinet had legitimized Hezbollah’s weapons.
The minister stated that if Hezbollah waged war against its southern neighbor, Israel would attack Lebanon’s infrastructure.
During the July War, Ezra added, Tel Aviv had restrained itself because it considered that not all of the Lebanese people were responsible for Hezbollah’s attacks against Israel.
He also said that Israel was facing tough enemies in Lebanon and Gaza, so it should be able to respond to them.
The Israeli prime minister’s spokesman, Mark Regev, told AFP that Israel does not consider the Lebanese state an enemy, but since Hezbollah has power in the cabinet, there could be negative consequences.
Ehud Olmert's spokesman said Israel did not consider the entire state of Lebanon to be an enemy but that "the moment Hezbollah takes control of the Lebanese government we will have to address the consequences,” AFP reported.
